In honor of our 14th Anniversary, we want to highlight 14 technology predictions 2018, and beyond. These are some of the cutting edge ideas that we think we shape our next 14 years!
- 3D Gaming
We’ve all heard of Google Glass, the forerunner of 3D gaming. Soon we think this will be the only way to play, and the technology will become more seamless and less clunky.
- 2D to 3D Converting Device
Wouldn’t it be cool to have a 3D game board or a map or a real estate video open up on your phone? As though your mobile device was a stage? The DDD Group is already hard it work on this…
- Wireless Display Technology
Soon we think HDMI cables will be a thing of the past completely … like home telephones or fax machines. We can’t wait, we’ve spent 14 years sorting through adapters and running hidden wires in hot attics.
- Snake Robots
For us geeks, it just sounds cool to say it, but the idea behind them is that they can tunnel through dangerous places and squeeze through tight spots that people don’t want to go; like earthquake rubble.
- Atmospheric Energy
This doesn’t seem to be easy to figure out, but we look forward to the day someone makes it work and gives us another alternative fuel option.
- Solar Fuel
Scientists Have Figured Out a Way to Convert Solar Energy Into Liquid Fuel. Scientist at Harvard (of course) have figured out how to convert solar energy into liquid fuel, potentially accelerating the switch to an alternative, infinite, energy source.
- Wireless Energy Transfer
The first wireless powering unit is an inductive device that looks like a mouse pad and can send energy through the air – similar to what Nikola Tesla envisioned in 1905. Most devices aren’t yet equipped with the coil that accepts energy from the inductive pad, but soon they will be … no more wires and cables.
- Space-Based Solar Energy
Did you know that every hour, more solar energy reaches the Earth than humans use in a year? Space-Based Solar Energy in a nutshell is using satellites to capture solar energy and then focus/direct it to earthbound collection devices.
- pCell Technology
Combines radio signals transmitted from multiple pCell base stations to synthesize pCells about a centimeter in size around each mobile device. pCells direct a full amount of wireless capacity into a device, amping up its speed. As a result of the personal pCells, users aren’t waiting for their turn and aren’t competing for limited spectrum.
Hyperloop, in planning, consists of two massive tubes extending from San Francisco to Los Angeles. Pods carrying passengers would travel through the tubes at speeds topping out over 700 mph.
Nanotechnology is a multi-discipline science that manipulates matter the molecular/ atomic level to solve problems. Nanoscale — a scale so small that we can’t see it with a light microscope; one nanometer is just one-billionth of a meter in size.
- Neural Interfaces
The human neural system generates, transmits, & processes electrochemical signals throughout the body. The ‘electric part’ of those signals can be ‘read’ and ‘interpreted’ – it opens the door for brain study, neuroprosthetics, and neural retina implants; just to name a few.
- Quantum Teleportation
The name alone is cool – but one of the long-term goals is to build a fibre-based quantum internet connecting large cities; how they plan to do it is fascinating.
- Deep Learning Software
One example of this type of Artificial Intelligence is Deep Patient. Trained using data from about 700,000 individuals, it proved incredibly good at predicting disease on new records. Without any expert instruction, Deep Patient discovered patterns hidden in hospital data that seemed to indicate when people were on the way to a wide range of ailments, including cancer of the liver.
Some of these technologies are already in play, some are still just in research, and a few are still just being visualized. We love some of these 14 technology predictions 2018 for their social and cultural implications, but some of them we are excited about just because we are tech nerds.
